About

Introduction

I have been in the decorating trade since leaving school in 1978 and have never been out of work since. I served an apprenticeship with Knowles and son for 3 years (including advanced craft) and have vast experience in all types of decorative work. I have been on courses for decorative paint effects and kept up to date with all the latest practises and materials so I think I am qualified to call myself a professional decorator

I exclusively work at private homes primarily in Cumnor, Boars Hill, North Oxford and Kennington What you see here is what you should require and expect from a professional decorator and you can use this as a guide when acquiring other quotes / estimates.

Quotations

You will get a quotation not an estimate, what you see is what you pay- no hidden extras. I will give you a breakdown of materials and labour. I only use the best materials for the best results (usually Dulux trade). Obviously the best materials are the most expensive; please bear this in mind when comparing quotes.

Insurance

I am covered for public liability to the value of one million pounds.

References

You can have a reference from the last job, the nearest to you or one with similar work carried out on it. I will ask if you can make yourself available for a reference if required, but as most work now is “word of mouth” this would be rare.

Guarantees

I guarantee all work for six months; a signed receipt will be handed over at the end of the job upon payment.

V.A.T.

I am not V.A.T. registered.

Cleanliness

As I am always working in people’s homes, I use clean polythene sheets (for furniture and beds etc) and regularly updated clean dustsheets. I will bring my own vacuum cleaner. I also extensively mask up (e.g. all carpet next to skirting boards). After each days work your home will be left in a tidy condition. I am a non smoker.

Trust

95% of my work is domestic; obviously you need to trust your decorator in your home, especially if you are at work all day. Any betrayal of trust would ruin a career that I have built up over the years, so this is very important to me. I do not sub-contract work out and I will be involved from start to finish.

Rates

My rates are very competitive. Nowadays it is extremely difficult to find a good quality tradesman who is reliable and consciences and my rates reflect my professionalism in my field.

Availabilty

The only drawback in running a successful business is that I am often booked up months in advance. Once you are in my diary, I will be there on that date (health permitting). I only have one job on the go at all times so you will get my undivided attention

Theme Rooms

Why not have a unique, daring and spectacular room? I can undertake any ideas you may have from a TV programme or a magazine, anything is possible! E.g. a moonlit sky in your bedroom. Your son’s bedroom could have the colours of his favourite football team with large club badge and stencilled footballers with a football pitch notice board. Your daughter’s room can have an 8ft by 6ft Aquarium with spectacular colourful fish; I have done all 3 above amongst many others I have stencil acetate so your own unique stencils can be designed. If the above sounds too much, how about a decorative paint technique, ragrolling is my speciality.

Colours

I have colour cards of all the leading paint manufactures. With thousands colours to choose from it can get a bit daunting so to allay any uncertainty I can buy sample pots before commencement. I also have a vast range of sample pots, which I could bring to your home beforehand.

Acceptance Of Quotation

If successful with my quote, I will arrange to come to your home one evening to discuss colours, leaving colour cards and give general advice. I have a large selection of books and magazines with ideas, colour schemes and stencils etc that is available to you so there should not be any uncertainty as regards your requirements.

When comparing quotes and decorators please note that running a legitimate and responsible business (i.e. with insurance and guarantees etc.) costs me more money and effort, so I am justified in charging more for my services than someone who does not offer the above.

My clients are often members of the professional classes: people who lead busy lives and who do not have the time or inclination for DIY work. Such people do not want to cut corners by using unrecognised decorators who will often do a cut-price job, and the quality of whose work reflects the low prices they charge. The discerning client is prepared to pay more for a good job, which will give full satisfaction, no hassle, and for this he or she naturally looks to decorators who are recognised and vetted by their trade.

Thank you for taking the trouble to read my introductory letter, which basically says you, will get a professional, honest, reliable service at a competitive price.
